Heavy injuries at quarterback
The Baltimore Ravens are facing major injury problems at the quarterback position ahead of their Thursday night game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Coach Jesse Minter has not named a starting quarterback yet as the team works through several options.
Lamar Jackson is out with a right thumb injury and will go on injured reserve. Minter noted after Sunday's 36-10 loss at Buffalo that Jackson's injury could potentially end his season. Backup Tyler Huntley is also ruled out due to a toe injury.
Fagnano fighting through injury
Third choice quarterback Joe Fagnano is dealing with an ankle injury. He was a limited participant in Monday's practice walk through. Minter stated after practice that Fagnano has a chance to play on Thursday as he fights through his physical issues.
If Fagnano starts, he will be only the second undrafted rookie quarterback to start in the 32 year history of the franchise. The first was Anthony Brown, who lost 27-16 to the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2022 season finale.
Other options and kicking changes
The only fully healthy quarterback currently available is Austin Reed. The 26 year old was signed to the practice squad on Monday. Reed knows the offensive system because he spent time in training camp with Baltimore this summer and played under offensive coordinator Declan Doyle in Chicago last year.
Baltimore is also preparing for a change at kicker. Starter Tyler Loop has a right groin injury and missed practice on Monday. Loop is 2 of 6 inside 50 yards this season after missing a 34 yard field goal on Sunday. Minter indicated practice squad kicker Jake Moody is expected to kick on Thursday.
Trying to break the losing streak
The Ravens enter this game with a 4-4 record after losing three straight matches. They are currently in last place in the AFC North division.
Minter said that losing Jackson means every part of the team must step up. He explained that the team needs to play strong defense, make key plays on special teams, and adapt their style of offense.
