Baltimore Ravens completed a trade for center Cam Jurgens after sending doctors to check him before signing the deal.

A quiet medical check in Philadelphia

The Baltimore Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles handled their recent trade quite differently from the usual process. Baltimore acquired center Cam Jurgens along with a 2027 seventh round pick. In exchange, Philadelphia received a 2027 fifth round pick and a 2028 second round pick.

Instead of agreeing to a deal pending a physical, the two teams made special plans. The Ravens sent two of their own doctors to the Eagles training facility on Wednesday morning. The doctors conducted the examination in a quiet part of the facility without most of the Eagles organization taking notice.

Lessons learned from the Maxx Crosby deal

This unique step was taken after a failed trade earlier this year. Back in March, the Ravens agreed to acquire Maxx Crosby from the Las Vegas Raiders for two first round picks. Crosby flew to Baltimore the following week, but he failed his physical, and the entire trade was nullified. That situation left the Raiders, the Ravens, and Crosby unhappy.

This time, Baltimore wanted answers first. Jurgens had back surgery in 2025 and is currently still in concussion protocol. The Ravens doctors tested Jurgens thoroughly using the same standards that Crosby did not pass. Once the medical team deemed Jurgens fit, the deal was finalized.

Other teams across the league took notice of this strategy. Advanced trade talks in the future might now include medical exams before any paperwork is officially finalized. As for Jurgens, he will not play on Sunday night against the Atlanta Falcons. He is expected to make his Ravens debut next week against Cleveland.
