A New Quarterback In Baltimore

The Baltimore Ravens completed a trade with the Arizona Cardinals on Friday to acquire veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett. Baltimore sent a 2027 fifth round pick and a 2028 seventh round pick to Arizona. In return, the Ravens received Brissett and a 2027 fourth round pick.

Brissett joins a Baltimore team that holds a 4-5 record after a 33-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday. Starting quarterback Lamar Jackson is currently on injured reserve with a right thumb injury. Jackson is eligible to return on Dec. 13 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Backup quarterback Tyler Snoop Huntley is out for the remainder of the season with a turf toe injury.

Offensive Penalties And Line Issues

Baltimore has failed to score more than 14 points in four consecutive games, setting a team record. Pre snap penalties have repeatedly halted drives. The Ravens have been flagged for false starts 24 times in nine games, which is the highest total in the NFL.

Offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley leads the team with seven false starts. Tight end Mark Andrews has six, while John Simpson and Roger Rosengarten have five each. Head coach Jesse Minter stated that the pre snap penalties are unacceptable.

Protection has also been a major issue. Baltimore ranks 24th in the NFL by allowing a pressure rate of 36 percent. That pressure contributed to injuries for both Jackson and Huntley in a recent game against Buffalo. Meanwhile, Brissett has been sacked 62 times since the start of the 2025 season.

Looking Ahead To The Next Three Games

With Jackson playing, Baltimore averaged 29 points over their first four games. Without him, scoring dropped to 14.6 points per game over the last five games. Production from other key players has slowed down as well. Running back Derrick Henry has averaged 63 rushing yards over the last five games, while wide receiver Zay Flowers has averaged 52.3 receiving yards.

Brissett will guide the offense through the next three games against the Los Angeles Chargers, Carolina Panthers, and Houston Texans. All three defenses rank in the bottom half of the league in points allowed. Henry noted that the team needs all hands on deck and believes Brissett can step in and assist the offense.
