Baltimore Orioles Lose Jackson Holliday to Injury Ahead of Brewers Series

Injury Blow for Orioles

The Baltimore Orioles have suffered a major setback in their playoff push. Second baseman Jackson Holliday has been placed on the 10 day injured list due to left wrist inflammation. The move is retroactive to Tuesday.

The team announced the decision shortly before their 7-1 victory against the New York Mets on Wednesday. Baltimore currently has a 75-78 record. They are two and a half games behind the Chicago White Sox for the final American League wild card spot.

Manager Optimistic About Return

Orioles manager Craig Albernaz remains hopeful that the young star can play again this year. He did not rule out the possibility of Holliday returning for the final weekend of the regular season.

Albernaz explained that Holliday will undergo imaging tests when the team returns to Baltimore to host the Milwaukee Brewers. According to the manager, the player has been fighting through the pain for some time. Albernaz said that Holliday has been dealing with it for a while and playing through it, adding that he deserves credit for showing up every day.

To fill the empty roster spot, the Orioles have called up infielder José Barrero from Triple A Norfolk.

Holliday's Tough Season

Holliday has had a challenging year. The 22 year old, who was the top pick in the 2022 amateur draft, is batting .229 with seven home runs and 30 RBI this season. He also missed 48 games earlier this year after undergoing surgery to remove a bone in his right hand.

While he went 2 for 4 in a recent 2-1 win over the Mets, his recent form has been dipping. Holliday is hitting just .196 with 24 strikeouts in his last 102 at-bats.
