Houston Astros Name New General Manager
The Houston Astros have officially hired Randy Flores as their new general manager. The team made the announcement on Friday night as they prepare for the next chapter of their front office leadership.
Flores steps into the general manager position with significant experience in top level baseball management. He arrives in Houston following a successful stint of over ten years with the St. Louis Cardinals.
Experience in the Front Office and on the Field
Throughout his time in St. Louis, Flores proved his value in building a strong roster. He spent more than ten seasons with the Cardinals, serving as their assistant general manager starting back in 2018.
In addition to his front office work, Flores has a deep history as a professional athlete. He spent eight seasons playing in the big leagues as a left handed reliever, which gives him direct knowledge of what players face on the field.
Owner Jim Crane Praises the New Executive
Astros team owner Jim Crane spoke positively about the hiring and expressed great confidence in Flores. Crane pointed out that Flores had a huge impact on the Cardinals over his ten seasons in St. Louis.
Crane explained that the Astros were thoroughly impressed with Flores throughout the interview process, particularly praising his background in scouting and player acquisition. Crane stated that the team is happy to welcome Flores and his family to Houston and is eager to start working together to bring another championship to the franchise.
Filling the Void Left by Dana Brown
The Astros had been searching for a new general manager ever since August, when they decided to fire Dana Brown. Brown had previously held the general manager role after being hired on January 26, 2023.
With Flores officially stepping into the role, the organization fills a major vacancy in its front office. The team now turns its attention to building for future success under his leadership.
