Arteta Commits To Arsenal
Mikel Arteta is set to stay at Arsenal after agreeing terms on a new long term contract extension with the club. The 44 year old manager had a contract that was due to expire at the end of the current season. However, he has repeatedly stated his intention to remain with the club he first joined back in December 2019.
Sources close to the situation say that all parties involved have been very relaxed about the contract talks for several months. It is highly likely that the agreement will be finalised during the current pause in the domestic campaign.
Pay Rise And Timing
Arsenal do not play another match until October 10 because of the newly extended international break. This means that confirmation of Arteta signing his new contract could easily come before the team returns to the pitch.
While the Gunners declined to comment when contacted about the negotiations, Arteta is set to receive a significant pay rise on his current salary. Sources say that his new earnings can reach 15 million pounds, which is around 20 million dollars, once bonuses are added to the deal.
Historic Achievements
Last week, Arteta spoke about his contract situation and shared his feelings about his time at the club. He said that he is extremely happy and feels very grateful to work with the people he works with at Arsenal.
The manager has earned this new deal through some impressive results on the pitch. Arteta ended Arsenal's 22 year wait for a Premier League title in May. Additionally, just last month, he registered his 150th league victory from 249 games in charge. Only Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho, Jurgen Klopp and Sir Alex Ferguson have ever reached that major milestone quicker than Arteta.
