Arteta sends message to teenage star
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has promised that young talent Max Dowman will get first team minutes this season. However, the manager warned that the 16 year old starlet must earn his place on the pitch.
Dowman has already been named as an unused substitute four times this season, including during last Wednesday's match at Napoli. To keep up his match fitness, the youngster has been playing for the under 21 team, featuring in a 4-1 loss against Chelsea last weekend.
Last season, Dowman became the youngest player to start a Premier League match when he played against Crystal Palace. He also scored a memorable goal against Everton. Arteta explained that squad size limits make it hard to include everyone. He had star players like Noni Madueke, Eberechi Eze, and Viktor Gyökeres on the bench during Saturday's 2-0 win at Sunderland. Arteta said that Dowman will get his chance but must earn his minutes like anyone else.
Champions face busy away run
The Gunners travel to Ipswich Town on Tuesday for a Carabao Cup fourth round match. Arsenal finished as runners up in the competition last season after losing to Manchester City at Wembley. They are now looking to make it five wins from five games in their new campaign.
This trip to Ipswich is the third consecutive away match for Arsenal. They are coming off a hard fought 2-0 victory at Sunderland, where Bukayo Saka scored a late goal. That win followed a close away victory at Napoli and a tough game against Chelsea.
Saka spoke about the heavy travel load, admitting that people do not see how difficult it is behind the scenes. He praised the squad and staff for how they have managed the busy period. Arteta added that his players are highly motivated and eager to play, win, and keep improving.
