Training Ground Blows
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has defended the club training programme after Piero Hincapié and Martín Zubimendi suffered ankle injuries during a post match session on Saturday. Hincapié was pictured being carried from the pitch by staff at Emirates Stadium following the 2-1 win over Leeds United last weekend.
Both players are undergoing scans on Monday to find out the extent of the damage. Arteta admitted the situation is far from ideal as his squad prepares for upcoming fixtures.
Manager Defends Methods
Arteta explained that the session was planned for players who did not get enough minutes against Leeds. He spoke with staff to review the routine and asked if anything could have been done differently, but concluded that football remains a contact sport where accidents happen.
He noted that similar sessions took place 37 times last season without any issues. Meanwhile, William Saliba has returned to light training, though the central defender is still weeks away from a full comeback.
