Robbery during the match

Brazil winger Antony experienced a distressing incident when his home in Seville was burgled while he played in a Champions League match against Porto on Wednesday. The former Manchester United player started the game at the La Cartuja stadium before discovering the crime.

Antony joined Real Betis initially on loan in January 2025 before making his transfer permanent later that summer.

An emotional statement

Antony took to social media to share his feelings about the incident. He posted a statement on his Instagram story describing the event.

He wrote that a night that promised to be brilliant ended up becoming a night of anger, sadness, and frustration because his home was burgled. He mentioned that losing things achieved with hard work was painful, but the main issue was feeling unsafe where his family should be protected.

A troubling week for players

Antony is the second LaLiga player to report a home robbery during the week. Villarreal goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi also missed a Champions League match against Napoli after he and his family experienced an armed robbery.

Gulacsi returned to training on Thursday and stated that nobody was hurt, though he described the ordeal as deeply traumatic.
