Big setback for Minnesota Timberwolves
Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards will undergo an arthroscopic procedure on his right knee. The treatment will keep him off the court for up to two months.
Edwards first began grabbing his right knee on Sunday during Minnesota's home victory over the Toronto Raptors. He was then listed as questionable on the injury report ahead of Monday's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Despite the issue, he played a season high 41 minutes and scored 47 points, though Minnesota fell 127-125 in overtime.
Injury history and impressive season statistics
Before the Cleveland game, Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch described the knee issue as a daily situation. He stated at the time that he was not worried about it being a long term concern.
This right knee is the same leg where Edwards dealt with runner's knee last season. He also experienced a hyperextended left knee and a bone bruise during the playoffs last year, though he avoided any ligament damage at that time.
The knee surgery comes at a bad time for the player and his team. Edwards was off to the best start of his career, averaging 33.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game while shooting 48 percent from the field through four matches. The Timberwolves currently have a 3-1 record and play the Golden State Warriors next at home on Wednesday night.
