Facing Manchester United
Andrey Santos faced Manchester United at Old Trafford last season while playing for Chelsea. The match ended in a 2-1 defeat for Enzo Maresca's side after Robert Sanchez received a red card after only five minutes. Despite the tough result, Santos noticed one opponent in particular. He said that Bruno Fernandes was the only player from Manchester United that impressed him during the match. Santos added that he has always watched Fernandes play as a football fan and finds it special to now be alongside him.
Following that fixture, both clubs experienced big changes. Maresca and Amorim left their manager roles in January. Liam Rosenior took charge at Chelsea while Michael Carrick arrived at Manchester United. Chelsea struggled in the second half of the season and finished 10th. Meanwhile, United finished in third place after losing just two of their 17 matches under Carrick, helped by Fernandes and Casemiro.
A fast move to Old Trafford
Santos made the move from Stamford Bridge to Old Trafford for a fee of £48 million last summer. The transfer happened very quickly while Santos was taking his children to the doctor. His agent called to set up a meeting with United, and Santos pulled over in the parking lot to speak with the chairman and the coach. Just two days later, while he was supposed to report to Chelsea, his agent called to say everything had changed and he needed to pack for Manchester instead.
Now at his new club, Santos faces the responsibility of replacing Casemiro, who joined Inter Miami over the summer after scoring nine goals and providing two assists in his final season with the Red Devils. Santos mentioned that he knows how big Casemiro is in Brazil and at Manchester United, but he enjoys taking on that kind of responsibility.
