The Race For Coach Of The Year
The 2026 Major League Soccer regular season comes to a close on Saturday. It has been a long and unpredictable campaign spanning 259 days, featuring a FIFA World Cup right in the middle. With the season ending, writers made their choices for the top awards. For coach of the year, B.J. Callaghan of Nashville SC is a strong favorite. Callaghan led Nashville to the Supporters' Shield and a tie for the regular season points record. Other strong candidates included Ryan Richter of the Philadelphia Union, Yoann Damet of St. Louis City, Bruce Arena of the San Jose Earthquakes, Eric Quill of FC Dallas, and Marko Mitrovic of the New England Revolution.
Shining Young Stars
The young player of the year category features impressive rising talent. Cavan Sullivan of the Philadelphia Union is a top pick for many. Sullivan went from a teenage prospect to an elite player in 2026. After the World Cup break, he recorded six goals and ten assists, helping the Union reach the playoffs. Julian Hall of Red Bull New York also received strong support. Hall scored 13 goals and five assists in 31 games and became the youngest player in MLS history to record a hat trick at 18 years and 50 days old. Justin Ellis was also mentioned among the talented youngsters.
Newcomers Making An Impact
Antoine Griezmann of Orlando City SC is a leading choice for newcomer of the year. After arriving in July following the end of the LaLiga season, Griezmann scored just 48 minutes into his debut. He recorded 14 goals and eight assists in 17 games, helping Orlando reach the postseason. Guilherme of the Houston Dynamo is another top contender for the award. Guilherme posted 16 goals and 10 assists, showing great performance since scoring in his debut match in February.
