Amorim Eyes European Trophy
AC Milan manager Ruben Amorim has made his goals clear before his team's first European game of the season. He wants to win the Europa League. The Italian giants did not play in any European tournaments last season. Their last European match was in the 2024-25 season, when Feyenoord knocked them out of the Champions League.
Now, Milan are back on the European stage. They will host Portuguese side Benfica at the San Siro on Wednesday night. This is a special match for Amorim, who used to play for Benfica during his playing career.
High Demands at San Siro
Amorim knows what it takes to get close to this trophy. He reached the Europa League final with Manchester United in the 2024-25 season, but his team lost to Tottenham. Now, he wants to go one step further with Milan.
Amorim told reporters that the goal is obviously to win. He explained that at big clubs like AC Milan, there is no minimum objective. He knows that if they do not win the trophy, the team will face heavy criticism. He believes that if the motivation is there, the team can win any match. He also said that having a squad worthy of the name makes the difference.
Milan have some exciting options for the match. Winger Omari Hutchinson, who is 22 years old, joined the club on loan from Nottingham Forest this season. Hutchinson reached the semifinals of this competition last season. Amorim confirmed that the young winger is fit and ready to start. However, the manager did not want to reveal his starting lineup because Benfica manager Marco Silva is very intelligent and is definitely watching the press conference.
