Late drama in Austin

The Houston Rockets secured a 114-110 win over the San Antonio Spurs after a dramatic final play at the Moody Center. With five seconds remaining and Houston leading by two points, Spurs guard De'Aaron Fox passed to Victor Wembanyama near the basket. Wembanyama rose for a shot, but Rockets guard Amen Thompson leaped and swatted the ball away.

Fred VanVleet caught the deflection and sank two free throws to seal the outcome. Kevin Durant praised the defensive stop. Durant said it was an incredible block and called the quick second jump rare for any human.

Strong performances lead the way

Thompson finished the night with 20 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and two steals. Earlier in the game, he even scored a dunk over Wembanyama and made the extra free throw in the third quarter.

Alperen Sengun led all scorers with 29 points, adding seven rebounds and seven assists. Sengun scored 18 points in the second half to help the Rockets reach a 2-0 start for the first time since the 2017-18 season. Coach Ime Udoka noted that the team did a good job switching on defense and denying catches.
