Injury Setback for Sweden Star
Liverpool striker Alexander Isak is heading back to Anfield earlier than expected. The Swedish forward has picked up a minor injury while away on international duty. This news comes as a blow for Liverpool fans who have watched Isak make a very strong start to the current season.
The striker was in action for Sweden on Friday. He played the full 90 minutes and managed to score a goal in a 2-1 victory against Romania in the Nations League. However, that will be his only contribution for his country during this extended international break.
Assessment at AXA Training Centre
Sweden still have three matches left to play during this break. They are scheduled to face Poland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Romania. Isak will not feature in any of those games.
Instead, he is flying back to England. Liverpool released an official statement on their website to explain the situation. The club said that Alexander Isak is to return to Liverpool from international duty due to a minor injury. They added that the striker will not be involved in Sweden's three remaining fixtures in the current international break and will now be assessed by club medical staff at the AXA Training Centre.
Manchester City Clash Looms
Liverpool supporters will be hoping that the injury is indeed minor. Isak had a difficult first season at Anfield, which was disrupted by injuries. The club will want their forward fit and ready for their next big match.
That next fixture is a massive Premier League clash against Manchester City. The game is scheduled to take place on October 11. Having Isak fully fit for that match is a major priority for the team as they look to build on his strong start to the campaign.
