Cardinale offers full support

AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale has publicly backed manager Ruben Amorim despite a difficult start to the season. Amorim arrived at Milan this summer after he was sacked by Manchester United. Milan currently sit fifth in Serie A and are seven points behind the league leaders.

Speaking to Gazzetta, Cardinale confirmed he still has full faith in his manager. He used a line from the movie Top Gun to make his point, stating that he is not leaving his wingman. Cardinale insisted that Amorim is in no danger whatsoever and that he will stand by his side.

Lessons learned from Manchester United

Cardinale explained that he hired Amorim because the coach understood the lessons from his time in England. Amorim explained his mistakes at Manchester United during his interview. Cardinale believes Amorim brings the right culture, leadership, and preparation to the squad. He noted that the atmosphere at Milanello has changed compared to the last four years.

The owner also explained that switching managers repeatedly is a mistake he wants to avoid. He acknowledged that the team still needs to find cohesion, learn player rotation, and secure more victories. Cardinale stated that a draw is a defeat in his eyes, as only three points help close the distance to the teams at the top.

Derby test after European and league losses

The vote of confidence comes after some tough results for the team. Milan suffered their first Serie A defeat of the season on Wednesday night, losing 4-2 against Bologna. That result followed a 3-0 loss to Bournemouth in the Europa League when Amorim returned to England.

Despite these defeats, Cardinale firmly believes Milan can still win the Scudetto this season. He said it is completely possible and that he hopes Inter will start drawing games while Milan build a winning run. Milan now prepare for the derby against league leaders Inter, giving them a chance to reduce the gap.
