From the Ice Bowl to Modern Drama
The history between the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys runs deep, starting with one of the most iconic games in professional football, coined the Ice Bowl. The teams met at a frozen Lambeau Field. Temperatures at kickoff were 13 below zero and the wind chill was minus 45. Bart Starr had the Packers at the Cowboys' 1-yard line with 16 seconds left and convinced Vince Lombardi to try a quarterback sneak. Starr crossed the goal line for the winning score.
Decades later, Micah Parsons returned to Dallas in Week 4 of the 2025 season. The game delivered plenty of drama but no winner as the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys played to a 40-40 overtime tie. Dak Prescott threw a late strike to George Pickens, but Jordan Love and the Packers answered to force overtime. Brandon McManus kicked a field goal with one second remaining to seal the highest-scoring tie since 1974.
Memorable Playoff Battles
In the 1990s, the Cowboys built a powerhouse with the triplets. Dallas beat the Packers in the 1995 NFC Championship Game 38-27, led by Emmitt Smith's 150 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Decades later, the teams met in the wild-card round of the 2023 playoffs. The Cowboys were heavy favorites, but Jordan Love led the Packers to a dominant win after building a 27-0 lead.
Other playoff moments include Dez Bryant's overturned catch in 2014 and Jared Cook's toe-tap catch in 2016 that set up Mason Crosby's game-winning field goal. Aaron Rodgers also started his rise in Dallas back in 2007 when Brett Favre left the game with an injury.
