Bosa and McCaffrey Return
The San Francisco 49ers are set to welcome key players back for their Sunday game against the Las Vegas Raiders. Defensive end Nick Bosa and running back Christian McCaffrey have both been cleared to play without any injury designations.
Bosa has been sidelined with a calf injury since before the Week 3 fixture against the Arizona Cardinals. He returned to practice this week, taking part in all three sessions. "I feel great," Bosa said, adding that the bye week was a good extra week for him to get ready.
McCaffrey suffered a minor hamstring strain during Week 7 against the Atlanta Falcons. He sat out practice on Wednesday before returning on Thursday and Friday. McCaffrey said, "It wasn't too bad," noting that having the bye week helped his recovery without missing extra game time.
Evans Out Along With Other Receivers
While Bosa and McCaffrey return, receiver Mike Evans will miss his second consecutive match. Evans continues to deal with Achilles tendinitis, an issue that flared up in Week 6 against the Washington Commanders.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan mentioned that Evans has made a lot of progress, but the team does not want to risk pushing him too hard too soon. General manager John Lynch explained that they want to give Evans the best chance to stay healthy once he returns, rather than letting the injury linger.
The 49ers will also be without wide receivers Deebo Samuel Sr., who has a hamstring injury, and Christian Kirk, who injured his knee meniscus during practice on Wednesday. Shanahan stated it is still unclear if Kirk will require surgery.
Team Options and Questionable List
With several receivers sidelined, Shanahan indicated that Demarcus Robinson will likely be activated from injured reserve to face the Raiders. Robinson has been dealing with an ankle injury and remains listed as questionable.
If activated, Robinson will join Jordan Watkins, Jacob Cowing, Brandin Cooks, and likely KhaDarel Hodge, who may be brought up from the practice squad as the available options for Sunday.
Along with Robinson, the 49ers listed cornerback Nate Hobbs, safety Siran Neal, and cornerback Upton Stout as questionable. Hobbs is dealing with an adductor issue, Neal has knee and foot problems, and Stout has a shoulder injury. Shanahan said the decision on whether to activate Hobbs from injured reserve remains undecided.
